May Day was born in America in Chicago’s Haymarket Square in 1886 to demand the 8 hour day. Since then, May day is celebrated all around the world, except in the United States! It’s time to bring back that revolutionary spirit that we Americans are known for. It’s time to celebrate May Day, and to demand not only the 8 hour day, but safe working conditions so that when we go to work, we don’t go to die. It’s time to demand 30 hours work for 40 hours pay. It”s time to demand medical coverage for everyone in our country. It’s time to demand free, universal education. It’s time to demand child care for working parents. We have a lot to do!
We will be celebrating May Day again this year at the L.A. Workers’ Center again this year and we hope you will be joining us on Sunday, May 1 from 4-10pm. We will have a cultural program and food for everyone. JOIN US!
